My Volunteer in Caras Alegres
Volunteer
Our volunteers say
Why volunteer?
Volunteering at Caras Alegres is not just a great way to help people in need but also to get to know the guatemalan life without a lot of tourism around you.
As a Volunteer at Caras Alegres you will help us with our afternoon program (3 times a week) by playing with the kids outside, like soccer, games with a jump rope or painting the street with street chalk. In our afternoon program you will also do handicraft with the kids and support our director Allan with the activities that he has planned. Of course we are also happy if you have ideas for our afternoon program.
You can also help us with the administration and our community work, which includes workshops for parents or the women in the community.
You don't have to be fluent in spanish but because it is the only language the children and also most of the adults in the community can speak, you should be able to speak spanish on a basic level. You can also combine the volunteering with spanish classes in one of the spanish schools in Quetzaltenango, for example you could volunteer on monday, wednesday and friday, when our afternoon program takes place and go to a spanish school on tuesday and thursday.
