Community Lunchroom
High levels of malnutrition in Canton Xeúl have severely affected children’s development due to limited access to regular meals. Our Community Lunchroom project provides nutritious meals to combat this issue and promote better health. It also educates families on the importance of proper nutrition to support children’s growth and future well-being.

Community Lunchroom
Our project's primary objective remains steadfast in providing essential nutrition to children in need, a commitment we've upheld for five years by supporting 65 children through our soup kitchen. Despite some improvements, the COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated food insecurity within our community, leading some families to endure days without food due to economic challenges.
Many participating families and children face precarious economic situations, highlighting the critical need for ongoing nutritional support to ensure optimal development. Our project also prioritizes educating families on healthy eating habits to prevent common community illnesses and promote proper growth among children aged 4 to 14.
In response to heightened community challenges exacerbated by COVID-19, we've intensified our awareness campaigns. Nonetheless, economic strains have resulted in acute malnutrition among certain children, prompting us to expand our support initiatives. Last year, we provided nutritional assistance to 40 families with food boxes designed to sustain them for three months. This year, due to increased hardships, an additional three families require support due to chronic malnutrition.
Since 2018, Harbourton's support has played a crucial role in sustaining our project. We're implementing strategies to enhance sustainability, including leveraging volunteer assistance and investing in tools such as an industrial oven. This oven enables us to bake bread for meals and prepare other nutritious foods onsite, reducing costs and enhancing self-sufficiency. Moreover, our ongoing "Sowing for the Future" initiative, supported by Entre Mundos, promotes sustainable farming practices to reduce dependence on external resources.
Despite these challenges, our commitment remains unwavering in ensuring the nutritional well-being of children and fostering community resilience through sustainable practices and continued support.
